YES! Time GOES fast!

I have at least three hobbies, reading, writing and crocheting. Maybe not all. An extra hobby is and was my grandchildren. Have always been close to them, as I many times looked after them when young according to need. Also, when they were young we went on holidays some times. Yes, our family, now extending, are a close family. My husband and I have three children together, six grandchildren and now we are expecting two GREAT grandchildren. I may conclude; more busy times ahead.

Long before retirement I started to prepare for all the spare time, I was to have, as retired. I bought yarns to make mainly blankets. Although, earlier I used to make clothes, curtains, table cloths and more. Easier to concentrate on blankets.

Have almost finished around 60 blankets now, in my later years, and have gifted over 40 of them to family and friends. But I’m still swimming in yarn. Have crates of yarn in the garage and many more crates stored in my yarn room. Most crocheters never have enough. All this yarn is waiting for my eager mind and hands to move.

My dilemma is that I also have a need to write stories, mainly for 10+ year old children. Have more stories in stock, going back around 30 years, but need to rework them somewhat to fit better into current times even if those stories mostly have adventures, which contain magic and fantasy. So, of course, they do not need to be true.

Another hobby is reading. Lately, during the last few years, I have been reading Guy Anderson’s books. You will find his books on Amazon or through his Facebook page where you may order directly from the author to have the book signed. You may also order from your own favourite bookstore. His books may be bought as Paperback, Kindle version etc. Since I’m in Australia, I chose to buy the Paperback directly from Amazon to receive this faster. With Prime membership, I usually have postage for FREE.

Recently, I had the thought that the next book I planned to buy written by Guy Anderson, may well be an audio book. I had not tried to listen to a book before, but had the thought I could possibly be able to crochet at the same time. Only, when crocheting, I many times use complicated patterns with lots of counting and thinking.

Next I organised to have a trial at Amazon to listen to audio books and chose Guy Anderson’s ‘The Grimm Origins of Children’s Stories’ as my first choice. The subject is close to my heart. Who hasn’t heard of Hansel and Gretel, Rumpelstiltskin, Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, Snow-White, Rapunzel, Sleeping Beauty etc.? All of these and many more, were my favourite stories as a young child.

Please Note: Guy Anderson’s book is most probably NOT meant for children to read. His work is meant for those who wonder more about what lies behind all the stories.

So, I started my trial. I sat down doing nothing, absolutely no crocheting, while I listened to the narrator reading what Guy Anderson had written. The narrator reads well, the audio is good and everything sounds great. BUT, for some strange reason I could not concentrate on what I was hearing. My mind wandered off too many times. I gave up. Maybe I will try better some other times, but for now – I just ordered the paperback and will receive this in only a few days from the east coast to me on the west coast. I’m eager to read the book as soon as I get it. Hopefully, there will be “no spanner in the works”. Well, you never know.

Have just finished two baby blankets for my coming great grandchildren. Now I’m working on a granddaughter’s 20th birthday present, which was supposed to be finished last June. Better get my gears together, but I also need to read the book I expect on Saturday 3 October. Where is my time? Just goes too fast – as always.

Just a few of my blankets. (The link is for those who are curious.)

Also, here is one of my favourite crocheters Martin up North from the north of Sweden. On the link, he is also “with” my favourite Beatle – George Harrison. Just listen to the words by George Harrison, while Martin up North thinks about his work, which takes a lot of time and money.

  1. I started using Audible about a year ago while still reading books. So I pick and choose the Audible. On Amazon, you can buy a book to listen to for a ‘credit’. Zero payment if you are on Prime. So I divide my books up between the real book in the hands and the Audible. You will find you may like it more than you think. I listen to Biographies on the Audible and read the classics so I can turn the page. You might also check out You Tube. There is a channel that does nothing but narrate books. Its pretty good. I listen to it at night when I can’t sleep and it is free. My favorite Beatle was George too. I saw them at the San Francisco Cow Palace in 1964 – I was 11 years old -I will never forget it 🙂

    1. Thanks for all the tips re audible formats. I suppose I have to try better. There are so many interesting books to listen to. Seems even on youtube. Well, I should listen when I can’t sleep, which happens in the middle of most nights. Interesting that you saw The Beatles in 1964. I was at a concert in Gothenburg, Sweden, 1963 when I was 15. My girl friend and I were great fans. I always liked George the best. Saw a great program on youtube a while back when little Dhani Harrison, as a young teenager was invited to play with all “the big guys”. He was to play one song with them, but they wanted him to stay much longer. He was a spitting image of his dad. Probably still is. Great program!
